Maths

Intent:

All children have a fluent grasp of mathematical facts which they can confidently apply to solve problems.

We passionately believe every child can achieve in Mathematics, no matter where they start. Therefore, every member of staff fosters a positive ‘can do’ attitude to maths and we use mistakes and misconceptions as an essential part of the learning journey. Children are taught to become fluent Mathematicians through their daily maths lessons and additional fluency lessons. ln order to become efficient mathematicians, we encourage regular rehearsal of key skills such as mental methods and written methods for each of the operations. Children are given opportunities to use mathematical objects and visual representations to demonstrate their knowledge and make links between areas of mathematics. This starts with puzzle, songs and playing games with resources in the early years and continues with manipulatives throughout the rest of the school.
