Medicines in school

Where children are unwell and not fit to be in school or where they are still suffering from an infection which may be passed to others, children should remain at home to be cared for and looked after.  If you are unsure how long to keep your child off school for due to illness, there are some useful guidelines on the NHS Choices website here:

http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Yourchildatschool/Pages/Illness.aspx

It is our school policy that children who have vomited or had diarrhoea should not return to school until 24 hours after the last episode.  It is also important that any contagious infections are reported to the school.  If your child is going to be absent from school please call the School Office on 01923 245490 before 9.15am.  Our Office has an answer machine with an option to leave an absence message.

We are committed to ensuring that children return to school as soon as possible after an illness, (subject to the health and safety of the school community) and that children with chronic health needs are supported at school. The policy below sets out clearly a sound basis for ensuring that children with medical needs receive proper care and support in school.

Parents of children in need of medication must ensure that the school is accurately advised about the medication, its usage and administration. Parents must complete the Medication Request form (available below or from the office) before a medicine can be administered by staff.
