Year 3 – Year 6 Holi Festival Celebration
This event will take place on 14/03/2025
Dear KS2 Parents/Carers,
I am delighted to inform you that our school will be celebrating the Hindu festival of Holi as part of our Religious Education curriculum. This vibrant celebration offers a wonderful opportunity for our children to experience and understand diverse cultural traditions.
Holi is one of the most popular and colourful festivals in the Hindu calendar. Known as the "Festival of Colours" or the "Festival of Love," it celebrates the arrival of spring, the triumph of good over evil, and the joy of new beginnings. The festival commemorates the story of Prahlad and Holika from Hindu mythology, representing the victory of devotion over wickedness.
Traditionally, Holi is celebrated by people throwing coloured powder and water at each other, sharing sweets, and coming together in a spirit of forgiveness and community. It's a time when social barriers break down, and people unite in a joyful celebration of life.
Our Holi celebration will take place on Friday 14th March. Children in Year 3 to Year 6 will participate in various activities to learn about the cultural significance of Holi, followed by the highlight of the celebration – throwing coloured powder paint!
For this special event, children in Year 3 to Year 6 should come to school in their uniform as usual. However, we kindly ask that you also send them in with the following clothing, as they will be taking part in activities involving paint:
- Plain white t-shirt (please note we cannot guarantee the paint will wash out completely)
- Old pair of trousers/shorts/leggings/joggers
- Old shoes/trainers
If you have any questions about this celebration, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your continued support in enriching our children's educational experiences through cultural diversity.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Chauhan RE Leader
