Year 1 - Local Area Walk
This event will take place on 03/10/2024
Our Autumn 1 Topic is “What makes us special?” In Geography, we will be learning about the local area surrounding Cherry Tree School in North Watford. To support this learning, we will be taking the children on a walk around the roads to find out which geographical features we can find in this area (park, mosque, temple, road, school, allotments, train station, supermarket, library, fire station).
The intent of the visit is:
• To identify geographical features and record this on a spotter sheet
• To use position and direction vocabulary (next to, behind, in front)
• To discuss why some places are special in our local area
The trip will take place on Tuesday 1st October 2024 from 9:30am - 11:30am. There will be additional adults accompanying the classes to ensure we have the correct ratio of adults to children. We will take a first aid kit with us and a risk assessment will be completed before the visit. Children will be made aware of potential risks and safety of walking on the pavement next to roads on our journey.
Children should be dressed in school uniform that is suitable for outdoor activities. They may bring a change of footwear such as trainers to wear for the walk. If the weather is cold and wet, they should wear a coat.
